當代社會的變遷歷程,虛擬媒體已經成為整體環境不可分割的一部份,人們不斷的藉由網路的連結,介入、改變、創造整體生活場域,大至與環境的互為,小至個人的訊息處理,網路在約莫20年的進展歷程,從一開始的資訊檢索,如今已經快速橫向的包圍與縱向的滲透進人們生活的各個層面,重新改變了人們觀看的方式,也更新了人們認識世界與認識自己的管道,這些網路造成的改變除了對於人事物之間的連結關係,也同時更涉及了連結的兩端。
而筆者認為在創作的實踐中,必須省思自身的經驗,並檢視此經驗背後的社會脈絡,作為創作對於社會的回應與責任,因此筆者在此研究中,對於在網路中社交行為的分析,從觀看方式的轉向、生產圖像的速度與平民化、自我形象與歷史的編碼以及認同等內容進行討論,這些因網路社群串聯而產生的行為模式,是在當下社會環境中,因科技發展中的時代特殊性,產生的社會集體現象,也是筆者希望在創作以及研究中觀察與對話的對象。
《虛擬身分》這一系列作品,是筆者在觀察與思考自身與周遭後,對於環境的對話。除了上述的對於人們行為的觀察,在作品中,大量半透明的圖像,象徵著人們在網路場域留下的痕跡,同時藉由影像的觀看方式-圖層,轉化了古典的油畫技法-薄塗,再藉由繪畫的勞動過程回應虛擬網路的生活經驗,在這一連串的過程中,是筆者企圖在創作中回應有關於影像與繪畫之間的關係,在這個時代產生的某些改變。
Along the process of changing in the modern society, virtual media has become an indivisible part among the overall environment. Via the connection of internet, people constantly interfere, change, and create their domain of life - from detailed personal message processing to the extensive interactions with their surroundings. Starting from a preliminary stage of information retrieval, the internet have been under development for more than two decade. Today, it expansively surrounds and profoundly penetrates into peoples’ lives in every aspects, rearranging the way people see as well as renewing bypaths regarding how human beings recognizes the world and themselves. These internet-conducted changes affect not only relationships between people, events, and objects, but also the elements at the two ends of a connection.
I consider it a responsibility and reflection to the society to, in the fulfillment of creation, meditate one’s own experience and further examine the social sequence behind such experience. Thus, in my present study I analyze social behaviors on the internet, discussing from the veering of views, the speeding and civilianization of image production, and the coding and identification of self-image and self-history. These behavior model, shaped by the series connection of internet community, are in the present society a display of social collective triggered by the distinctiveness in an era of technology development; and it is what I expect to observe and communicate with during my composition and research.
The series of “Virtual Identity” is a dialogue with the environment in which I engage after I observed and deliberated upon the surroundings. In addition to the above-mentioned observation of human behaviors, the massive translucent images symbolize traces that people left on the domain of internet. In the meantime, through the approach of image seeing-layers, a classic oil painting technique -scumbling - is transformed; and the virtual internet life experiences are then replied with the labor process of painting. Within such series of process, I intend to respond in my creation the relationships regarding images and paintings, which have been variated in the present era.
