A Study of the Leadership Cognition and its Development of Youth in Taipei
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand leadership cognition and its development of young people in Taipei City. The study was conducted with questionnaires that were designed based on literature review and related empirical studies. Then a chi-square test approach was used to explore how the background variables affect young people’s leadership development. Considering the representativeness of the samples, “Convenience stratified cluster sampling method” was applied to the junior high school students, and “Convenience sampling method” was used to the senior high school students in this study. With 2,096 effective samples, the major findings of this study were summarized as follows:
1. The leadership mode of youth in Taipei is similar to servant leadership.
2. The teenage girls are lack of self-confidence and will set limit for themselves often.
3. The opportunities of leadership will affect young people ‘s wish to be a leader.
4. The adult people give little support to young people in leadership development in Taipei.
Finally, according to the results of this study, some suggestions were offered to education authorities, teachers, families, and future research.
