The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among the spouse’s congruence of their Holland code, marital satisfaction, intimacy, marital communication and attachment.
Through convenience sampling, 200 married couples in Taiwan participated in this study. The research was based on a collection of five instruments; that is, Career Interest Inventory, Chinese Marital Affection Scale, Marital Communication Inventory, Attitude Scale, and Marital Adjustment Scale. Both husband and wife had to complete these five questionnaires and total 302 valid results were received. The Iachan index was also used to evaluate the spouse’s congruence. One-way MANOVA, one-way ANOVA, t-test, simple liner regression, multiple regression and hierarchical regression were adopted to analyze data. The conclusions of this study show as follows:
    1. Family income and spouse’s congruence had no significant influence on marital satisfaction, intimacy, marital communication and attachment.
    2. Marital satisfaction, intimacy, marital communication and attachment varied significantly with the length of marriage and family life cycle.
    3. Family income and spouse’s congruence might not significantly predict marital satisfaction, and the mediator effect of intimacy, marital communication and attachment between spouse’s congruence and marital satisfaction wasn’t exist.
    4. Length of marriage and family life cycle could significantly predict marital satisfaction.
    5. Intimacy, marital communication and attachment could significantly predict marital satisfaction.
Bases on the results, suggestions for counseling service and further research were proposed.
