The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between body image and mental health among the gay men from the perspective of gender role strain. Via a online questionnaire survey, 281 gay men (in average age 27.72 years) was obtained by purposive and snowball sampling. Research instruments included Socio-demographic Variables, Body Image, and Mental Health. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistic, one-way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The findings were as follows: 1) gay men were dissatisfied with their body fat and muscularity; 2) gay men highly involved in weight training, and may take protein supplements; 3) there were differences on body dissatisfaction with body fat in terms of body size; 4) dissatisfaction with muscularity moderated the relationship between dissatisfaction with body fat and mental health. Based upon the results, some suggestions for health-promotion education and counseling were proposed. Directions for future research were also indicated.
