This study primarily investigates knowledge workers in the information industry, focusing on their collaborative information behaviors within a hybrid work model. It examines the methods of collaboration, including the acquisition and utilization of information, as well as the digital tools and information skills required. The aim is to explore how knowledge workers can enhance their efficiency in a hybrid working environment, thereby aiding both companies and knowledge workers in utilizing these practices to increase productivity.
The research methodology used was semi-structured, in-depth interviews. The criteria for participant selection included: (1) having engaged in a hybrid work model continuously for the past six months; (2) working remotely for at least two days per week up to the time of the interviews. Data for this study was gathered from interviews with ten knowledge workers in the information industry.
The results indicate that: (1) knowledge workers adopt different work modes for collaboration depending on the specific tasks; (2) they heavily rely on digital tools for collaboration; (3) they require support from their organizations in the form of an appropriate information environment and policies to facilitate hybrid work; (4) they need access to a diverse array of digital tools; (5) they must possess agile information skills.
