Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of oxygen-coordinated niacin-bound chromium (NBC) and U!behi Energy-chewing pill (UBE) supplement on aerobic and anaerobic performance. Methods: Twelve physical education male students performed a baseline graded treadmill test (Bruce protocol) and Wingate test for three times. All subjects took different capsules (NBC, UBE or placebo) before aerobic performance test for 15 minutes under double-blind controlled. We measured aerobic performance parameter (VO2max, time to exhaustion, EPOC, lactate, and glucose) and anaerobic performance parameter (mean power, peak power, time to peak power, fatigue index, lactate, and glucose). Results: After NBC and UBE supplement, participants were significantly increased in VO2max (NBC:53.3 ± 4.9 ml/kg/min, UBE:53.5 ± 4.86 ml/kg/min) and time to exhaustion (NBC: 14.73 ± 1.02 min, UBE:14.93 ± 1.05 min) than placebo supplement (50.7 ± 4.7 ml/kg/min, 14.4 ± 1.01 min ; p<.05), in addition, after UBE supplement, the time to exhaustion of participants were significantly increased than NBC supplement. With regard to the anaerobic performance, the peak power was significantly increased after NBC and UBE supplement (NBC:970.6 ± 76.9 W, UBE:993.8 ± 134.4 W) than placebo supplement (887.3 ± 81.6 W; p<.05). Conclusions: Both NBC and UBE supplement improved aerobic and anaerobic performance. As for time to exhaustion, UBE contains NBC, carbohydrate and other components, so UBE had higher efficiency on time to exhaustion.
Key words: VO2max, time to exhaustion, peak power
