With the rapid expansion of technology, travel blogging has become a popular form of writing to transmit travel knowledge, such as the history and culture of a destination and travelers’ personal experiences and feelings. There are an increasing number of books being published that are collections of travel essays or articles written by bloggers. Published in 2015, Footsteps to the South: What You Have to Know About Vietnam is such a book that was transformed from Hong De Ching’s travel blog. Thus far, this is the first travel book written by a Taiwanese author on Vietnamese culture that is not only accessible but also provides much useful information about Vietnam, using various photographs, profound content, and a richly humanistic perspective. This book is a valuable guide for foreigners to Vietnam, especially for Taiwanese people to better understand the country. Since the book aims to reach people of all ages and backgrounds, ease of access in translation is critical. This project applied the existing theories from Vermeer, Herder, Schleiermacher, Nida, Appiah, and Tytler to develop a translation methodology for books based on travel blogs, focusing on strategies to make the translation straightforward, simple to comprehend, and clear to the target audience. The methodology places a special emphasis on the functional and cultural aspects of the translation, instead of language analogues. This study resulted in an annotated English translation of 17 sections of the first two chapters of the book, contributing a new translation methodology for an up-and-coming genre important to the field of translation literature.
