本論文之研究目的在於對一英語教師用全球資訊網站(WWW site)之形成性評量(Formative Evlan以及發展、設立作一描述及說明。就網站的設立基礎而言,本論文詳細說明其間所依據的網頁設計原則,以及關於各知名網站(如ESLa)以及其他成功的以英語教師進修為目的的網路(如香港的Telex)。依據Tee的架構及網頁上得到的資訊,本網站的骨幹概分為三部分,依序為()英語教學網站總匯:收集並分類網路上和英語教學相關的網站,其中多為國外網站;()英語教學線上討論區:提供一個對於英語教學非即時性線上討論的園地;()英語教學資源區:其中英語教師得以交流及找尋可供下載的教案、文章、測驗題、聲音檔、圖形檔、甚至師範大學英語系所出版的三本期刊的電子版本。在研發的過程告一段落之際,我們採用問卷調查的方式搜集使用者(多為英語教師以及英語系學生)的意見。此問卷調查的範圍僅涵蓋人,乃是由於本問卷之主要目的為本網站設計內容及發展之初步評估。就問卷調查的結果而言,大部分使用者認同本網站的發展潛力,而同時對於技術層面上可以改進的部份使用者也不吝地指出。對於未來需要修正的方向,大部份使用者尤其關切網頁內容(相較於架構)的擴充。技術層面上的建議包括字型大小、顏色、美工、排版等各方面,也將被斟酌列入網頁修正的範圍。透過這些寶貴的回饋,進一步的修正以及再次的評估將被不斷地進行。正當網頁的設計製作過程不間斷進行之際,更深入地探討此種網站應用於英語教師在職進修上的實際效果,以及更多的以量為主的實證性研究將是無可避免的一個方向。本論文的最後提到,此網站的研發不僅在於提供台灣英語教師教學及自我成長的資源,同時也希望可以喚起更多關於此類本土化英語教學網站的研究及發展,以為本土英語教師及教學注入更多的生命力。
The thesis aims for a design as well as evaluation of a WWW site for teachersin the career of ELT (English Language Teaching). As for the background ofthe Web site design, various Web design criteria, existent Websites (such asESL Cafe), and the rationale of formative evaluation are reviewed first.Based on the model provided by TeleNex, a network project in Hong Kong inwhich the main concerns are the Web use in promoting in-service Englishteacher development, the ELT Campus is established in considerations of Webdesign criteria and also the realistic limitations and needs of Englishteachers in Taiwan. Three sections are established for the ELT Campus: (1)Links to ELT-related sites, where ELT-related Web sites, mostly overseassites, are collected and categorized; (2) ELT Discussion Forum, where a Webboard is available for discussions of English teaching; and (3) ELT Resources, where English teachers can share and find valuable lesson plans, articles,test items, sounds, graphics, or even the electronic versions of the threeELT-related publications by the English Department of NTNU. When the basicstructures and functions are validated, a questionnaire is designed anddelivered to get feedback from users, mostly English teachers or Englishmajors. To serve the purpose as to evaluate the preliminary development ofthe Website, 23 questionnaires are delivered and collected. Most subjectsshow a positive attitude towards the potential of the design, while minortechnical drawbacks are generously pointed out. Among the suggestions formodification, great concerns come to the substantiation of the contents.Technical aspects such as the font sizes, font colors, and the aestheticdesign are also commented. From the invaluable feedback, continuousmodification will be conducted and further steps of evaluation will be inprocess. The development of the Website being continued, further explorationand more quantitative empirical study will be a must. At the end, it isconcluded that the study is conducted not only to contribute to the ELTcareer in Taiwan, but also to serve as a starting point from which morerewarding Web projects will flourish.
