本研究主要是要了解在我們的生活環境中,各式各樣能產生磁場或影響磁場的設施或用品:如高壓電纜、車輛、家電產品等,是否會影響到人體的健康?以台北地區民眾的癌症罹患率為例,初步結果發現:癌症死亡人數的區域分布與磁場之變動值的大小分布,具統計上的正相關;但與磁場強弱的地區分布則沒有明顯的關聯。
除此之外,我們也針對高壓電塔的分布是否會影響到周遭磁場的強度與變動,以及與癌症死亡率的關聯性加以探究,結果發現高壓電塔的分布對於周遭的磁場雖有影響,但與癌症死亡的人數並無相關性,由此,我們推測可能原因是因為台電於架設高壓電塔時,已考慮到其和民宅間的安全距離,加上其他使磁場變動的因素,往往大於高壓電塔,故有此一結果。
依前人的研究,我們得知,電磁場變動和癌症發生之間的關係有三種可能:一、電磁場變動和癌症發生並無顯著關係。二、電磁場變動會造成胚胎細胞的癌化或促進異常及惡性細胞提早癌化的趨勢。三、電磁場變動會造成正常細胞癌化。本研究的結果較傾向於變動的電磁場可能影響到癌症的發生率。
