巴赫的《郭德堡變奏曲》是巴羅克時期最龐大的一首鍵盤作品。它展現出巴赫對當時不同音樂風格、寫作技法的了解與熟悉,融合並拓展鍵盤技巧的各種可能,總結了巴羅克時期的變奏曲創作;以今日的眼光來看,《郭德堡變奏曲》的重要性無庸置疑。然而,在音樂史上,這首樂曲的評價與接受度並非一直如此。整體而言,從1741年出版之後,《郭德堡變奏曲》並沒有受到太多注意,直到二十世紀,其價值才逐漸受到肯定,並因為顧爾德(Glenn Gould, 1932-1982)1955年的錄音,才受到舉世注目。然而,早在二十世紀初,布梭尼(Ferruccio Busoni, 1866-1924)便已看出此曲的價值,不但將其列入音樂會曲目,並為此曲創作了適合於音樂會及現代鋼琴上演奏的改編版本。
布梭尼改編的《郭德堡變奏曲》創作於1914年,1915年由出版商Breitkopf & Härtel出版。布梭尼以鋼琴家、指揮家、作曲家、理論家、教育家等多重身分,活躍於十九世紀末、二十世紀初的國際樂壇,曾編輯、改編許多巴赫作品,影響甚鉅;詮釋觀點自有其美學淵源與實務背景。布梭尼改編之《郭德堡變奏曲》,不但是他對於巴赫作品詮釋觀點的體現,也為鋼琴家提供了另外一種詮釋的思考方向。但目前在國內外卻幾乎無法找到以此曲為主題的研究資料,有聲資料亦寥寥可數。究其原因,不同時代間詮釋風格的轉變,應是最大的原因。本篇論文即由此方向,分析布梭尼對於《郭德堡變奏曲》的各種改編手法、內容與特色,探討此曲至今未受重視的可能原因,以及對於此曲定位與價值的重新省思。
