Female new immigrants is a high-risk group in the society, and her status has a huge influence on her health. This research uses interviews to collect data for female new immigrants. The results of the study found that the topics of health information needs that female new immigrants concerns include preventive health information, disease treatment information, medical provider and medical assistance information, and fertility and parenting information. The channels for seeking health information for female new immigrants can be divided into interpersonal channels, online resources and other traditional media resources. The factors for choosing health information seeking channels are mainly based on the accessibility of information, the similarity of personal background and experience, the richness of information content, and the authority of information sources, and the novelty of information. The difficulties encountered by female new immigrants in the process of seeking health information include gender barriers, language barriers, sociocultural barriers, health literacy barriers, and digital gap barriers. The main solutions they adopt are comparison and seeking help from others.
According to the research results, a framework for the health information needs and information behaviors of female new immigrants was compiled, and the following conclusions were drawn. Female new immigrants have different health information needs according to their ages, and they often have "fertility and parenting information" needs when they are young. Interpersonal channels are the priority for female new immigrants’s health information seeking channels, and information accessibility is an important factor for choosing health information seeking channels. Female new immigrants of different nationalities, Chinese language proficiency and information skills may differ in their use of interpersonal channels and online resources. Female new immigrants use online resources to conduct bilingual search and comparison, and use resources from both countries and regions. When female new immigrants encounter difficulties in the process of seeking health information, they are mainly resolved by comparison and seeking help from others. Female new immigrants will identify the correctness of health information by considering the authority of information, comparing information, referring to others' evaluations, using personal experience, and using online information verification tools. Female new immigrants will use information by reading abstracts, integrating health information, and taking practical actions. Female new immigrants share health information mainly through various social communication software and face-to-face chat. Finally, this study puts forward practical and future research recommendations for female new immigrants, spouse of female new immigrants, government agencies and medical institutions.
