( A. dolichocephala ) 及濁水月桃 (A. schumanniana) 分別併入島田氏
月桃(A. shimadai) 及月桃 (A. zerumbet);將川上氏月桃 ( A. kawaka-
(A.shima-
(A. ura-
The genus Alpinia Roxb. (Zingiberaceae) of Taiwan is taxono-
mically treated as fourteen taxa and one infficiently known
species in this study. A. dolichocephala and A. schumanniana are
treated as synonym of A. shimadai and A. zerumbet respectively.
A. sessiliflora and A. kawakamii are newly combined as A. pricei
var. sessiliflora and A. shimadai form. kawakamii respectively.
A. kawakamii and A. kusshakuensis are divided from A. copelandii
and A. uraiensis respectively. Besides, two doubtful species i.e
A. mesanthera and A. tonrokuensis are confirmed. Among them, A.
formosana, A. kusshakuensis, A. mesanthera and A. tonrokuensis
appear to be natural hybrids based on their intermediate morpho-
logical characters.
Besides morphology, this study observes chromosome number,
pollen morphology, geographical distribution and floral phenolo-
gy. There are eleven taxa which chromosome number are firstly
reported here. The chromosome numbers of Taiwan species are all
same i.e. 2n=48 (tetraploid). The pollen stainability is higher
than 90% in most species, but lower than 65% (35-65%) in those
doubtful hybrids mentioned above. This support the result of
morphological characters. Sympatric distribution, overlap of fl-
oral phenology and the same number of chromosome may be the fav-
orable factors of hybridation, but it is necessary to study more
that hybridation is confirmed.
The genus Alpinia Roxb. (Zingiberaceae) of Taiwan is taxono-
