As the rapid development of communication technology and the Internet of Things (IoT), car sharing has become increasingly recognized as an important part of transportation, contributing to the improvement of urban mobility and energy efficiency, as well as the reduction of carbon emissions. However, the business-to-consumer (B2C) model of car sharing involves various cost factors and challenges. Therefore, this study aims to focus on the transformation and development of major chain car rental companies in Taiwan to explore the implementation of car sharing.
Through data consolidation, this study has identified five major dimensions and twenty-one criteria for analysis and discussion. It enables a quick understanding of the business scale and key considerations of car rental chain operators when transitioning to car sharing. The survey targeted industry experts, consisting of 23 professionals with backgrounds in car rental or car sharing. The Hierarchical Decision Model (HDM) was employed to evaluate and calculate the relative weights between dimensions and criteria, facilitating the reordering of weights.
The analysis of the research findings is as follows: Within the five major dimensions of the research model, convenience and proximity are given the highest priority. The prioritized criteria under each dimension are as follows: (1) Vehicle-Internet integration dimension: priority given to the positioning system, (2) Convenience and proximity dimension: priority given to the number of locations, (3) Operational cost dimension: priority given to vehicle procurement, (4) Customer management dimension: priority given to rental rates, and (5) Sustainable environment dimension: priority given to reducing carbon footprint. These research findings provide key insights for traditional car rental businesses considering entering the car sharing industry, enabling them to effectively formulate development strategies.
