大學圖書館是提供研究與獲取學術資源與服務的主要場域,大學圖書館所提供的服務應考量多樣化使用者的需求,避免以資訊人員角度來進行資訊服務。近年來外國學生不斷地逐年增加,國內大學書館幾乎以同一種標準模式來服務所有的使用者,但是使用者的背景或使用的目的等不同,會有不同的需求產生,大學圖書館應站在使用者立場思考如何提供有效的資源與服務,並採取應變的對策與重新檢視圖書館所提供的資源與服務是否符合外國學生的需求。
本研究採質性研究方法,探討外國學生在學業方面所需要的資訊並從外國學生接觸相關資訊的過程中,瞭解外國學生資訊的使用因素。本研究以十位具有正式學籍之外國學生為研究對象,以深入訪談法與小型問卷蒐集研究資料。研究結果發現,外國學生面臨的問題包括修課前、修課中與修課後三個面向;外國學生需要的資訊偏向提昇語言能力與支援課程學習的資訊;獲取所需資訊的管道主要以網際網路、人際管道與圖書館;最常利用的圖書館資源與服務,分別依序是使用線上館藏目錄、課程指定參考資料與紙本資源;影響外國學生資訊的使用包含個人因素、訊息因素以及訊息來源因素;使用圖書館經驗因來自不同地區國家而有所差異。綜合以上結論並結合使用者的看法及意見,提出研究建議,期望研究結果有助於圖書館做為日後規劃設計資訊服務的參考。
Library is one of the primary places for the faculty and students in a university to conduct researches and acquire academic resources and services that the library should consider the demands from diversified users and avoid providing information from the angle of information personnel. In recent years, foreign students have increased year by year in the universities and almost every library in universities used the same standard model to provide services for all users. But due to different background of users and purpose of use, there are different demands from users. The library of university should consider in the position of users how to provide effective resources and services and adopt contingent countermeasures to re-examine if the resources and services provided by the library meet the demands from the foreign students.
The research adopted qualitative methodology to explore what information foreign students need in their studies. We also tried to understand the factors that might affect
foreign students in using information in the process of their contacting with related information. The subjects of the research were ten officially registered foreign students. The in-depth interviews and a small-scale questionnaire survey were employed to collect research materials. The results found that the problems the foreign students faced included three aspects: before study, in study and after study; the information the foreign students needed focused on the enhancement of language ability and the support to their study; the primary accesses to the needed information included Internet, interpersonal channels and library; the most frequently used resources and services of library in the order of frequency were online library catalogue, course designated reference materials and paper resources; the factors that might affect the foreign students in the use of information included personal factor, message factor and message
source factor; the experiences in using library were different with regions and countries they come from. The research finally made recommendations after synthesizing
above-mentioned conclusions and combining library users’ views and opinions with the hope that the results were helpful to the libraries of universities in their planning and designing information services in future.
