Previous studies have claimed that physical activities can effectively improve the health-related physical fitness of schoolchildren. However, few researches focus on the relation of means of commutation and children's physical fitness. The empirical study investigates the effects of means of commutation and physical activities on students' health-related physical fitness.
The subjects in this study are 58 fifth-grade male students. Their average age, length and weight are 11.09±0.44 yr, 142.94±5.09 cm, 37.98±7.96 kg, respectively. The three-day recalling note of physical activities is adopted to assess the average energy consumption of schoolchildren's physical activity. According to their energy consumption and means of commutation, the subjects are divided into four groups and have the test of physical fitness. Based on the analysis of physical fitness tests’ data, the investigation shows that (1) students with plenty of physical activities excel those with fewer physical activities in Waist-Hip Rate、muscular strength、muscular endurance、flexibility、cardiorespiratory endurance; (2) students walking or riding bicycles to school are superior to those taking buses or delivered by parents in Waist-Hip Rate、muscular strength、flexibility、cardiorespiratory endurance; (3) The interaction of means of commutation and physical activities has a significant effect only on Waist-Hip Rate.
