Abstract
This study intented to investigate the relationships between high school girls' scientist image and their gender tendency. One hundred eighteen 11th graders of a girl school in Tainan were sampled as participants, they are ethier science or non-science majors. The Thematic Apperception Test was employed to investigate the scientist images they held, and "the semantic differential scale" was applied to analyze the relationships among students' images of scientists, literature writers, boys, girls, and self:
Our major findings are listed as the follows:
1. There are differences of scientist image between science majors group and non-science majors group. As for the attributions for success of female scientists, non-science majors group tends to have external, uncontrollable and unstable attributions.
2. The relationships between gender tendency and their images of scientist and self be stated as the follows:
(1) For science major girl, their gender identity is similar with that of scientist, which is somehow masculine and different from that of literature writhers. For non-science major girl student, their self gender identity is just on the other way around.
(2) For those students who are more feminine, the gender characteristics of self image is the same as that of girls, and also the images of scientists and literature writers tends to be more feminine. For those with more masculine identity, the result is just the opposite of this.
