This thesis is an analysis of an annotated English translation of four excerpted chapters from Walis Nokan’s Zhanzheng Canku 《戰爭殘酷》(Cruelties of War) and the first chapter of Syaman Rapongan’s Dahai zhi Yan: Mata nu Wawa《大海之眼: Mata nu Wawa》(Eyes of the Ocean). In the analysis, I discuss word choice, research, and strategies for translating Taiwanese indigenous literature, in comparison with other translators and/or scholars in the field.
