Ming-Sing, a blind musician, was the main subject of this research. In this study, the qualitative research method was employed, that was, the researcher participated the musician' sdaily life (in a natural context) by observing, doing in-depth interviewing, collecting useful documents and doing field notes in order to understand the various aspects of the career development of a blind musician. The purpose of this study was to explore the career development process of a blind musician as well as to find and to analyze the most meaningful factors which influence the musician both in personal life and social enviornment.
The data collecting strategies employed here was studying diaries , field observation, in-depth interviewing and document research. As to data analysis , the following methods were employed:literally translating the recorded interview into computer data by using Amipro 3.0 wordprocess system, watching video tapes, studying field notes, and analyzing research diaries and related documents of the blind musician. By cross checking, coding, analyzing, reconstructing as well as inducing the data, this research attempted to present the main obstacles of a blind musician who may meet in the career developing process. Also, this research tried to find out and to rebuild the meaning and the relation among the interacting data .
The main findings were as follows:
1.Elements related to the blind musician Ming-Sing's career development:Ming-Sing's career development was influenced by family life, the learning experience in educational process, courting mate or marital experience , working experience and social life experience , etc.
2.Personal factors telated to Ming-Sing's career decelopment:
Ming-Sing's career decelopment was based on several personal charac-teristies:communicative capability, acting capability, value system, music diposition, belief, self-acceptance toward blindness, personal quality, and achievement motive, etc.
3.Social factors related to Ming-Sing's career development:
There were three aspects referred to this dimension:family life, education system and social environment. Family factors were:family background, love from the parents, teaching attitude of the parents, family expectation, economic conditions, being a companion in child's growth, and marital life, etc. School factors were:visual impaired school, educational life, difficulty of learning music, and the school curriculums, etc. Social factors were: employment choice, qualified working ability, working right of the visual impaired, free-impairment space, social welfare policy, social acceptance toward the visual impaired, participation of social activity, and important others, etc.
According to the above findings, there were several inspiring conclusions: 1. regarding the interviewee as a person not a subject; 2. music conceiving rich meaning to a blind musician; 3. love playing the most important role to empower a blind musician in the career development; 4. importance of promoting and protecting both of the employed opportunity and the education right for a blind musician; 5. development of music for the blind relating to the development of the Braille scord; 6. indentifying and evaluation a blind musician with his' music', not with his' blindness'.
Finally, this dissertation explained the limitation of the researcher's participation and interpretation in this research as well as propose several suggestions to the further relative research plans.
