Since entering the era of streaming music platforms, music has become more closely connected with people through smart devices and mediates their daily life experiences. At the same time, the "Society-Weary" style of music creations have gradually increased on music streaming platforms in recent years, especially represented by independent bands. This kind of music with negative characteristics seems to have become a kind of spiritual solace for contemporary young people.
This study intends to observe the music listening practice of listeners in daily life through their use of streaming music platforms, and focus on the situations and emotional feelings of listeners. What’s more, when these listeners listening to society-weary music, is the need for emotions of society-weary summoned by the mechanism of the music streaming platform, or does the listeners actively seeks emotional resonance in the music, and streaming platform only play the role of a medium.
Research has found that streaming music platforms not only do not dominate people's music listening, but have diversified applications in people's usage habits, and have become a tool to regulate their own emotions when facing various life scenarios. In this way, listeners can use the personalized music recommendation function as a tool for exploring music. In terms of misanthropic emotions, when listeners face the external pressure of real life and the loneliness that occurs when they are alone, society-weary music not only resonates with the listeners, but also becomes a medium for processing emotionality.
However, even if they listen to the same song, the way the listener interprets the song and resolves emotionality will be different due to different life experiences.
