Under the trend of environmentalism, there was no research exploring green open innovation activities from environmental management perspective. This study tried to explore the positive effect of leadership styles on green innovation performance via the novel construct “green open innovation activities.” In this study, leadership styles were divided into three different types: paternalistic leadership, transformational leadership and transactional leadership.
This study utilized questionnaire survey in Taiwanese manufacturing companies. In total, 179 valid questionnaires were returned from manufacturing companies. This study utilized SPSS (23.0) to verify the hypotheses. The results showed that: (1) Paternalistic leadership, transformational leadership and transactional leadership had positive effect on green open innovation activities; (2) Green open innovation activities had positive effect on green innovation performance; (3) Paternalistic leadership, transformational leadership and transactional leadership had positive effect on green innovation performance; (4) There were significant differences between large and small and medium-sized (SMEs) companies on leadership styles and green innovation performance; (5) Green open innovation activities had mediation effect between leadership styles and green innovation activities
This study developed a new managerial framework of these construct: leadership styles, green open innovation activities and green innovation performance. We hope the research results are beneficial to companies, researchers, and future research as reference.
