班哲明‧布瑞頓(Benjamin Britten, 1913-1976)為英國二十世紀最著名、最重要的作曲家。其一生創作作品數量與種類繁多，其中又以聲樂作品特為傑出，在歌劇、藝術歌曲方面皆為英國締造了音樂創作的新里程碑。但除創作外，布瑞頓亦有相當數量的民歌改編作品，雋永有味，為人所傳唱。本論文特選其民歌作品《民歌改編第四冊 ─ 莫爾愛爾蘭歌曲集》，分別為《復仇與明亮》(AVENGING AND BRIGHT)、《航行，航行 》(SAIL ON, SAIL ON)、《多甜美的回聲》(HOW SWEET THE ANSWER)、唱遊男孩》(THE MINSTREL BOY)、《午夜時分》(AT THE MID HOUR OF NIGHT)、《富麗和珍貴》(RICH AND RARE)、《我國珍貴的豎琴！》(DEAR HARP OF MY COUNTRY!)、《常在靜謐的夜裡》(OFT IN THE STILLY NIGHT)、《夏日最後玫瑰》(THE LAST ROSE OF SUMMER)、《喔令人狂喜的景象》(O THE SIGHT ENTRANCING)共十首歌曲，從旋律、和絃、歌詞語韻及演唱詮釋方法等角度切入，對於該作品的演唱方法加以研究，並佐以譜例及註記，嘗試尋找出最能適切表達此作品意境的形與神，期能對國內布瑞頓作品之研究，盡一份綿薄之力。
