莫里斯．拉威爾 (Maurice Ravel, 1875-1937)是十九世紀末與二十世紀前半活耀的代表音樂家，當時法國藝術正處於浪漫及現代不同主義交匯發展時期，但是，他一方面守住古典主義原則，另一方面卻充分展現個人特色，甚至被推為印象樂派代表性人物。
在文獻及拉威爾往來的書信中，皆未曾提及此文欲討論之《A小調小提琴與鋼琴奏鳴曲》，因此，過去認為他只創作了一首小提琴與鋼琴奏鳴曲。直到1975年，美國音樂學者阿爾比．奧倫斯坦(Arbie Orenstein, 1937- )將此真正第一首小提琴與鋼琴奏鳴曲的手稿整理出版，並稱之為《小提琴與鋼琴奏鳴曲遺作》(Sonate Posthume pour Violon et Piano)，眾人的觀念才產生變化。此單樂章作品（本文一律統稱為《A小調小提琴與鋼琴奏鳴曲》）創作於1897年，是拉威爾在巴黎音樂學院學習時，第一首包含弦樂的室內樂作品，偏向浪漫風格，但從中也可以發現他嘗試各種節奏及和聲。因此可說是奠定了其在室內樂創作面向的基石。此書面報告共分為四個章節：第一章為緒論，包含研究動機與目的，以及研究範圍與方法；第二章為文獻蒐集，第一節介紹作曲家生平，第二節為創作特色及重要作品，第三節為《A小調小提琴與鋼琴奏鳴曲》之創作背景及首演資訊；第三章為全曲之音樂分析與鋼琴合作詮釋探討；第四章則為結語。

Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) lived during the late 19th-century and early 20th-century. It was also the time when French musical art made was transitions between Romanticism and Modernism. While followed the principals of Classicism, he simultaneously showed a distinct modem, personal style, which earned him recognition as a leading figure of Impressionism.
In previous research and Ravel’s own correspondence, the Sonata for Violin and Piano in A minor discussed in this report was never mentioned. People generally believed that Ravel composed only one violin and piano sonata. However, in 1975, American musicologist Arbie Orenstein (1937- ) compiled and published the manuscript of what is now considered Ravel's true first violin and piano sonata, by naming it “Posthumous Sonata for Violin and Piano in A minor”. The discovery shifted existing perceptions. Composed in 1897, while he was studying at the Paris Conservatoire, this single-movement sonata is Ravel’s first work featuring string instruments. The piece leans toward a Romantic style but also reveals Ravel’s efforts to innovate rhythm and harmony. It serves as the foundation for his later chamber music compositions.
This written report consists of four chapters: Chapter Ⅰ is the introduction, including research motivation, objectives, scope, and methodology. Chapter Ⅱ reviews some related literature, with the first section presenting the composer’s brief biography, the second examines his compositional characteristics and significant works., and the third section discussing the compositional background and premiere details of the Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Minor. Chapter Ⅲ provides a musical analysis of the entire piece, an exploration of interpretation and the collaboration art between violin and piano. Chapter Ⅳ concludes the whole report.
