The purposes of this study were to investigate 1) the peak
venouse bloodlactate during recovery after different intensities
of exercise in females;and 2) to compare if there was a
difference in recovery peak blood lactatebetween Physical
Education (PE) and non-PE students. Eleven (11) female
PEstudents (age 20.3±1.5 yrs; height 163.8±6.8 cm; weight
57.0±8.2 kg) andten (10) female non-PE students (age 21.1±2.0
yrs; height 161.0±3.9 cm;weight 59.8±8.8 kg) were studied. All
subjects performed three treadmillrun tests which included: 1)
an icremental exercise test to exhaustion; 2) a120%VO2max
intensity exercise to exhaustion; 3) a 5min run at 70%VO2max.
Venous blood lactate levels were measured at rest and every
minute from the3rd to 15th min after completion of the 120%VO2
max and 70%VO2max intensityexercises. There was no significant
difference in lactate concentration duringthe 3rd to 11th min
post 120%VO2max exercise (13-15mmol/L, p>.05) and the
peaklactate value occurred at the 5th min of recovery. After the
70%VO2max intensityexercise, the peak lactate concentration
occurred at the 3rd min, and there wasno difference from the 3rd
to 10th min during recovery (3-5mmol/L, p>.05). Thus,from the
3rd to 10th min during recovery may be appropriate for measuring
peaklactate concentration. During the 120%VO2max recovery, the
peak lactate valuesappeared at the 3rd (15.6mmol/L) and 6th
(13.2mmol/L) minute for PE and non-PEstudents. However, the
blood lactate levels from the 3rd to the 10th min(14-16mmol/L)
for the PE group, and from the 3rd to the 14th min (11-14mmol/L)
for the non-PE group were not statistically different. For the
70%VO2maxexercise, there were no differences in lactate from the
3rd to the 9th min forPE, and from the 3rd to the 14th min for
non-PE. It can be concluded thatregardless of exercise intensity
and the subject's physical ability, the bloodsamples during the
3rd to the 10th min during recovery can all be indicative
ofexercise intensity and metabolism.
The purposes of this study were to investigate 1) the peak
