The objective of this study is to discuss the actual applications of Taiwanese slip glazes and focus on their firing performances to do a more in depth study. To investigate the history of slip glazes and the operating situation in these days by analyzing the related researches and interviewing local ceramists. Also, to conduct the experiments on slip glazes made of Taiwanese clay by on-site interviewing, collecting clay samples and doing quantitative ICP chemical analysis and research of the samples, in order to comprehend the firing performances of Taiwanese slip glazes in various situations, such as the results in apply slip glaze on porcelain clay and local clay, different thickness of the glaze and firing temperatures and maintain on high temperature in different length of time after it has reached the firing temperature.
The followings are the conclusions:
1. The Taiwanese slip glazes have been used since the Japanese occupied Taiwan as a substation for Feldspathic glazes.
2. The clay from some areas of Taiwan can be used directly as slip glaze and they are rich in color.
3. Taiwanese slip glazes have similar firing performance after been fired on different clay bodies.
4. The firing performance is effected with different thickness of the oil spot slip glaze.
5. It is essential to maintain on high temperature for certain period of time after it has reached the firing temperature in order to achieve the result of oil spot.
6. The results of quantitative ICP chemical analysis and firing on Taiwanese slip glazes are coincident, with the performance of high temperature and glossy glazes.
7. The chemical quantitations of Taiwanese slip glazes are similar to the ones in Mainland China's.
8. Most Taiwanese slip glazes with amber base-color are differ from Mainland China's black base-color.
