Architecture industry is improving the prosperous development of a country. With the development of the modern technology, the architecture industry is facing a new challenge. That is fewer and fewer vocational high school graduates whose major are architecture willing to work in building sites. In addition, a lot of foreign laborers from Southeastern Asia come to work in Taiwan. Because these foreign laborers ask for lower pay, therefore, more and more students whose majors are architecture are out of employment. Architectural drafting has become the best job choice for high school graduates of architecture major.
On the other hand, those old and traditional teaching material for vocational high school still emphasizes hand-drawing architecture map instead of computer-aided architectural drafting which is used widely in the architecture industry nowadays. Therefore, the goal of this research is to:
1. Explore a new computer-aided architectural drafting course.
2. Analyze the top priority of software and hardware for opening a new computer- aided architectural drafting course.
3. Ensure the skills and knowledge that are essential to computer-aided architectural drafting courses. In addition, develop the outline of these courses to provide related departments with enough references.
The process of this research will propose a systematic and thorough perspective for architecture industry and educational industry to realize the urgent needs of opening the computer-aided architectural drafting course. The result of this research is:
1. Computer-aided architectural drafting course should be adopted as required courses for architecture major students in vocational high schools. In addition, this course should be taught on spring and fall semesters for seniors. There should be four house per week. The pre-required courses are: computer concerts, engineering graphics, and architecture drawing. The content for teaching this course should be emphasized on how to operate the input/output of the basic computer-drawing course. Surely, before opening this course, schools should have enough computers. Besides, teachers who will teach these courses should own the knowledge of professional architecture and the bility of how to operate the software of computer drawing.
2. Since the software and hardware of computers progress too rapidly, architecture major students in vocational high school should pay more attention on the knowledge regarding computers. Then, it's easier and convenient for them to adapt themselves to the rapid development of computer. Moreover, they will be more competitive and capable after their graduating from schools.
3. The outline of computer-aided architectural drafting course is divided intoseven chapters. They are Introduction, Initiate and Input, the Operative Instructions of Architecture Drawing, the Systematic Plan of Computer-drawing, the Accessories for Computer-drawing, the Applied Procedures, and Storage and Output of Computer-drawing.
